Skatepark lighting

  • In the Autumn of 2011 Totnes Development Trust received funding form our County Councillor to help the young skateboarders in Borough Park to achieve their goal of getting their skateboarding area lit during the dark hours of the autumn and winter evenings.   A Borough Park neighbours consultation was held in July 2012, including the representatives of the skaters themselves, parents, youth workers, the police, TDT and Ward members, where it was agreed the lights should get the go-ahead on condition they were timed to switch off at 9.30 pm.  Meanwhile, South Hams District Council came forward with their own plan to erect a 6m high fence around the Multi-Use Games Area (MUGA) to prevent balls from flying on to the railway tracks. The skateboard park - which is next to the MUGA - would then be lit from the top of this new fence, reducing the cost of installing lighting because the routing of the cable would now be more straightforward. On Wednesday 16th January - some 18 months after the Skatepark users first approached the Town Council for help - the South Hams Development Management Committee unanimously approved the installation of both the new fence and the lighting.  Implementation through TDT will now take place.

The project now has its own website: http://atmostotnes.org with lots of news and          information on how you can get involved.

ROTHERFOLD PROJECT

  • TDT's latest project now has a separate page in this website: Rotherfold Project. From there you can view the Notes of the first public meeting held on 22nd November 2011 and those of the further public and all the Steering Group meetings.

HERITAGE GROUP

  • The recent Heritage Group Committee meeting discussed this joint project being undertaken within the Public Realm Partnership, with the aim of providing information and raising awareness amongst building owners/tenants about their buildings; specifically, the information resources that are available concerning historic buildings, general information about the town and conservation area and a template that can be used to assess a building as a starting point.
Although progress is being made we could do with some more help as that would undoubtedly speed up the work. Any Volunteers?
